A nice little identity we've just produced for the Clever Cows.
Jonny
We end the week with the completion of the DSE Head Quarters branding. The project was received with both a rapturous applause from the client and a pat on the back to the DJ team. It was great to see the branding through from concept to completion and exceeded all the clients’ expectations.
Members of the DJ team will be joining DSE next weekend to help celebrate their success in achieving a Queens Award for International Trade 2011.
Congratulations to all round.
– Jason.
The digital switchover has finally started across Yorkshire this week (so I've been told). This see the Emley Moor mast which can be seen from our front window switch its signals from analogue to digital.
Did tha know:
- The first mast collapsed in 1969 and the one we see today was built in 1971
- It's the tallest freestanding structure in the UK (330.4 metres high)
- It's 25th tallest tower in the world
- The tower is a Garde II listed building
- Today the mast serves around four million people

I am currently doing some work experience with Design Junkie, my name's Gini and i'm currently studying Graphic Communication at Bath Spa University. It has been a great experience working here, everyone has been very welcoming, really felt like part of the team.
During my stay I have been lucky to have some help with my current university project. I have based this project around my recent visit to India. It involved producing a piece of work that can be described as a portrait. The idea of this portrait explains how the Indian culture looks similar in our eyes and their identity is lost. I have only chosen a minority of their culture reflecting the identity within one factory based in Pune. The numbers establish the exact coordinates of their location. We've finalised the preparation work and I look forward to seeing the final output.
The current DSE rebrand has turned it’s attention to the internal offices this week, starting with the Marketing suite.
The room is accessed through a glass entrance which has been rebranded with graphic contravsion. The showpiece is the four company brands identities, manufactured and routered from 10/20mm mdf, which have been individually mounted on the wall. Eight display stands, currently in manufacture will stand proudly on the adjacent wall standing three metres high by one metre wide. Even the 16 chairs have been reupholstered to incorporate an embroidered logo tab.
Branding to the rest of the manufacturing site will continue next week, whilst the DJ studio will continue production on a 96 page brochure pack for this Market leader.

One of the many good things we do hear at DJ is to annually help support one of our client’s DSE, who provide tremendous support for the Saint Catherine’s Hospice in Scarborough. Our contribution was a selection of gift wrapped champagne, various brightly coloured gift bags and stickers to compliment this year’s ‘Beach Ball’ theme. The evening resulted in over £20,000 being raised which will help the Hospice plan their forthcoming year’s budget.
So, a toast to a good cause may be in order.

With KKi’s rapid expansion, DJ was commissioned to capture their new Factory 3, a state-of-the art Aftersales facility. Thought I’d share this shot with you – check out the colour in this spray booth background.

Being the interesting fella that I am, a friend of my Gran's thought I might like this old Nalcom SUPER 8 video camera and projector that had been collecting dust in his loft for nearly 30 years. It's nearly perfect condition and believed to be all in working order, such a great looking/well designed product. The typography is spot on too

It’s official, the new DSE website is launched with an rapturous applause from the client.

Continuing our working relationship with Skills for Care, now into it’s fifth year see’s the successful launch of a national campaign promoting apprenticeships.
This campaign is one of a number of projects DJ has been working on over the winter months, which include ‘Carers Matter – Everybody’s Business’ learning and development framework, ‘Supporting Starters’ and ‘Starting Out’ guidance books – a legitimate excuse for the low blog entries.

After ideas on wood, glass and coloured plastic, Asda chose vinyl applied to polished perspex blocks for the best outcome for an upcoming winners award, simple but effective.

Nice view here at the crack o'dawn. I'm sure it will turn grey by the time I finish my coffee...

At approximatley 12:30 today, firemen rushed to The Mill to stop a raging inferno that seemed to come from the communial microwave. Once the smoke parted it came to light that what we believe was a quiche, had been burned beyond regognition by a hungry but neglective worker.
We are happy to report that only the quiche was injured in the incedent. It's important to remember that nobody is putting the blame on or pointing the finger at anyone else, especially not at Fran from Progress Packaging.
We learnt this week that we were successful in winning the tender for development of promotional materials for the Skills for Care Apprenticeships campaign.
Congratulations to all the DJ team, we’re all looking forward to getting started.
- Jason.
In production at the moment we have the DSE DVD-ROM / Corporate Video pack.

There’s nothing more annoying than having a spot of lunch on a Friday afternoon with your digital colleagues and the table your sat at is constantly swaying.
I knew there was a good reason why we had our DJ business cards foil-blocked onto 1200 micron board. Rumours have it that this is an aggressive DJ gorilla marketing campaign throughout Leeds – keep your eyes peeled.
- Jason.
The boss has come in for the afternoon, entering into the World Cup spirit.
You can tell who his idle is – ROONEY!!!
- Jason.
This is the latest identity we have just created for the Reviver programme. It's a 3-month intensive programme for Owner Manager and MD's who have recognised the need to get themselves and their businesses fired-up and back on track.
Jonny
The boss managed to borrow an iPad from one of the other dads on the school run for the day, and from a quick mess around we are already completely convinced it matches the hype!
-Adam
Time for a dust and a furniture refresh. Thanks, Habitat.
(Dust bin graffiti is not DJ approved)
As part of an upcoming project myself and Jonny tested out the Tanita Body Composition Analyzer machine, or the 'Fit Test machine' as we call it in short. The results it gives from standing on for a few seconds are pretty incredible and very interesting, well worth a go if you get the chance.
- Adam.
Following the creative success of ‘Your Asda’ and ‘Aisle Spy’ we've just completed the designs for the new ‘Asda Mums’ blog pages to asda.com. It's all about encouraging customers to blog about politics and things which matter the most to them and there families in the run-up to the 2010 General Election and compare it with what the politicians are saying – party's leader will be posting there own video on to the website.
The blog is due to be launched this week.

This is the new look for Earthsolutions Project Services, a small business based in Huddersfield. We created a new identity, business cards and also gave the company some web presence.

Samples arrived in today for this years ticket design, keeping in line with the BTCC brand DJ handled the creative for the 7th year running.

Just taken delivery of our beautiful thick new business cards, produced on GFSmith Bedrock 2000mic with white foil to both sides. A big thanks to Ian @ www.istprintingservices.co.uk.
We'd better start handing them out then.
Jonny
Not everyone likes the snow. Winnie wasn't interested in posing for this shot, I think he had the monk on.

We have a couple of things to celebrate first week back in 2010. Not only is it our 10th birthday, but we’ve also refreshed the DJ website in preparation for the new decade.
Hope you like the team effort in producing our very own birthday cake – don’t worry, we won’t give up the day jobs!
Happy New Year to one and all.
- Jason.
Thanks to Steve and the digital team for our new Table Football! This will see some action in the future i'm sure...(out of work hours of course!)
Eat, drink and be merry

I can’t believe its almost 10 years to the day, it was Boxing Day, we’d had Christmas lunch at the inlaws, all the family had settled down to watch a film. Me – I was tucked in the corner on my father-in-laws Apple mac designing the original DJ corporate ID.
A week later I was off in business, Ventura, Green Flag, UKI, RBS, RHS, Playboy, all within the first year – I’d even met and shook hands with Paul McCartney – long story!
It all seems a blur now that back bedroom, an Apple 9500 and me.
I’ve met some fantastic people over the years, many of which have become great friends right from the off. I personally want to give a big thank you to everyone who has given us their support and custom over the years.
Here’s to the next 10!!!
- Jason.
As 2009 is coming to an end, 2010 will see Design Junkie celebrating it's 10th Anniversary. To mark this great achievement we've had our own bags made. Produced by the great guy's at Progress Packaging, superb job.
Jonny
Just picked up some samples of the handy little print swatch we’ve designed for Wyke Printers. These are literally hot of the press and just in time for our trip to London to the LLUK conference where they will be unveiled.
We’re really pleased with it, even if we say so!
Anyone wants one, give us a shout!
- Jason.
It’s been another hard working week for the DJ team, often working late into the early hours. Jonny opting for continental shifts on standby to assist in the successful launch of Andy Bond’s presentation in London ‘The Dawn of a Democratic Age: Empowering The New Consumer’. Our role within the collaboration - to design the presentation.
I received several calls of praise, one of which sums up this week:
‘THE BEST AGENCY WE HAVE WORKED WITH’.
- Jason.
Setting off to Leeds to deliver some branded products for the ‘Apprenticeships – professionalising social care’ Gateshead workshop. Items include wafer series flash drives and laptop bags.
Tight deadline, low run, delivered in early, job done!
- Jason.
We were shopping at Asda Wakefield Monday for a background image for the ‘Your Asda’ blog page.
Check it out – http://your.asda.com

A three day trip to the East coast last week – not on a short family break, but art directing a corporate video for DSE in Filey. We got some cracking footage, met some great characters and gained a greater understanding into the companies operation.
End result so far, a night out with the management team (TBC) and an East coast bike trip – slight problem, failed to tell John from Customer Service that I haven’t got a motorbike at present!
Watch out for the video, will post some footage soon!
– Jason.
In our attempt to get out more, Mike and I embarked on a day trip to Aberdeen (via private learjet) to join the Koso Kent Introl gents, who were in full sales flow. Being the biggest of it’s kind, Offshore Europe 2009, gave DJ a rare glimpse into the Oil and Gas industry.
Take a closer look, is that Prash (looking ‘dapper’ in the suit) selling luncheon vouchers?
- Jason
P.s Forgot to mention we spent five hours in Aberdeen airport!!!!!
The DJ brand got a mention in the Leeds Media Bulletin (No.36/09) promoting the launch of Digital Junkie.
In case you haven’t already – take a look; www.digitaljunkie.co.uk
Nice one Suki.
- Jason.
I’m sure by now you’ve all seen the NatWest home insurance advert on TV, the one which shows the print production of a leaflet. is it me or is the registration out on the NW logo? Have a look next time.
May be I need to get out more!!!
Jason
Here's the new corporate identity we've just created for Darren Earnshaw (Therapist) at Holistic Works.
- Jonny
The creative team embarked on a journey across the A1 to join up with IMP Media guys for a ‘think-tank’ session. The end result was a vandalised flip chart and a clear direction for Asda’s latest media concept.
Another late night!!!
- Jason.
At last our hard working digital team get the recognition they deserve. Good work Junkies.
- Jason.
If your reading this article, you’ve probably noticed we have updated our homepage. We’ve given our work the chance to speak for itself, have a listen, tells us what you think.

It appears we have yet another ‘fitness freak’ in our team. Julie has been ‘persuaded’ to enter the ‘Cancer Research UK’s Huddersfield Race for Life’ event this weekend by our long-standing friend and work colleague Samantha Earnshaw, Marketing Manager of International Personal Finance – good luck ladies, all for a good cause!
- Jason.
